Jason Muteham at the Palace
We are very pleased to announce that Jason Muteham, a furniture maker whom we have supported for some time, has
just scooped the rare City & Guilds Medal for Excellence award in recognition of his exceptional work and is due to be presented with it by HRH Price Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace on May 18th. A thrilled Jason said: 'This award is a real confidence boost and helped with the decision to use my new found skills to start a business designing and making furniture.'
Jason, who studied at The Buildings Craft College, Stratford, London, is one of only 118 lucky people to scoop the 2010 award selected from over 1.8 million eligible learners to land the City & Guilds Medal for Excellence for his outstanding performance on the Fine Woodwork Diploma course.
City & Guilds, the UK's leading awarding body for work-related qualifications, has awarded the coveted medals every year since 1879. The Medals for Excellence programme rewards talented people who have displayed exceptional standards as students or educational professionals, and whose portfolio and achievements put them a cut above the rest.
According to the City & Guilds judging panel: Jason's portfolio was 'An excellent detailed submission with Jason being a worthy medal winner.'
Jason is now in the running to win one of nine prestigious Lion Awards, dubbed the 'education Oscars', which will be announced later this year at a gala event to celebrate learning, success and achievement, at The Lancaster, in London.
Colin Eden-Eadon, senior fine woodworking tutor at The Building Crafts College said: 'Jason has deservedly won this mark of special distinction. He is a real inspiration to others and demonstrates that getting the right skills can be the passport to fulfilling your true potential and, more importantly, your dreams.'
Jason from Boughton under Blean near Canterbury, is currently the 'Maker in Residence' at The Building Crafts College in London. He can be contacted via his website at
